In September 2015, the UN General Assembly adopted the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as the major global agenda to achieve by 2030. This article aimed to explore Japan's agenda to achieve the global agenda by reviewing detailed contents of SDGs and international stream of food and nutrition-related issues before SDGs. Recognition of the importance to link between nutrition issues and food systems was expanding in early period of 2000s and the recognition had been reflected into policy development and implementation during 2010s. Nutrition issues were rather less prioritized in comprehensive global documents before SDGs but SDGs prioritized nutrition as an important issue and included its statement in the document as well as food security related issues. As for Japan's agenda to contribute achieving SDGs, it seems indispensable to continue assistance for infrastructure and capacity building. On the other hand, achievement of SDGs would be an extension of achievement of domestic agenda. Japan should make efforts to achieve internal agenda through industry-government-academia collaboration. To share experience of good practice by the efforts with international society would be effective contribution toward SDGs achievement.
