A depression of cochlear microphonics (CM) due to intermittent intense sound stimuli was observed in normal and CoQio treated guinea pigs. It was studied whether an effect of a certain medicine on cochlear fatigue could be detected from this experimental method.
1) CM was recorded by the differential electrode method from the basal turn of the cochlea. Intensity function of CM was derived in order to monitor the difference in susceptibility among the individuals.
2) An intense pure tone stimulus of 1 min. duration and 5 min. interval was repeated 10 times. The chronic depression rate and the temporary depression rate of CM after each stimulus were observed.
3) The result for the control animals indicated that the chronic depression of CM progressed in an exponential way during the stimulation was repeated, while the temporary depression rate after each stimulus kept approximately constant value.
4) Being compared with the control group, the chronic depression of CoQio treated group was slighter and the temporary depression rate of it was similar.
5) A discussion was made about the effect of CoQ10 on auditory fatigue and some technical problems concerned with the experimental procedure.
