A case of primary nasopharyngeal tuberculosis resulted in nasopharyngeal obstruction was reported.
A-44-year-old female, visited our clinic because of purulent postnasal drip. The ulcer coated with viscid pus was seen on the roof and posterior wall of the nasopharynx. The throat culture reported positive for tubercle bacilli. Histopathological eximination showed chronic inflammation. After a year of combined streptomycin, PAS and INH therapy, she recovered from tuberculosis, but nasopharngeal obstruction occurred. Obstructed region was almost as wide as total nasopharyngeal space. She underwent an operation for reconstruction of nasopharynx after which the nasopharyngeal space was patent.
The primary nasopharyngeal tuberculosis is now very rare and we could not find a case with such widespread cicatrix and reconstructive operation as seen in this case, in Japanese literatures.
