In experimental sinusitis in rabbits which was obtained by the repeated injection of the Staphylococcus aureus after sensitizing with the intramaxillary administration of egg white albumin, antibiotic (Latamoxef) was used together with proteolytic enzyme (Seaprose S) and mainly tissue concentrations of Latamoxef into the nasal mucosa and maxillary sinus mucosa were investigated. Consequently, in the group of combination with Seaprose S for three days, a significant high tissue concentration of Latamoxef was recognized in comparison with that of Latamoxef without this protease. On the other hand, in the group of combination with Seaprose S for two weeks, the promoted effect on transport of Latamoxef into the tissues by Seaprose S was not clearly recognized. In light microscopical and scanning electron microscopical observations, no marked differences in the morphological changes between Latamoxef only and Latamoxef in combination with Seaprose S were revealed. It would be suggested that experimental sinusitis model in rabbits is very useful in regard to investigation on the efficacy of combined drugs.
