In order to make a countermeasure for a sea disaster such as the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, a physical model test on ship’s behavior and tsunami wave forces, which was a model of the 90,000DWT class coal carrier affected by the Tohoku disaster, had been conducted in two-dimensional water tank during a tsunami bore. The surface elevation, current, motions, mooring loads and tsunami wave forces of the ship had been measured in head sea. In this study, a combined method of the strengthened mooring line and a slack mooring using the anchor cable with an additional sinker as the tsunami countermeasure for moored large ship has been investigated based on the water-tank test result of the moored model ship under the tsunami bore and a developed numerical simulation technique for moored ship motions using the anchor cable with the sinker. It was clarified that the slack mooring of the anchor cable with a sinker was able to reduce the anchor cable tension compared with that without the sinker.
