In some earlier studies, it has been indicated that juvenile delinquents have the tendency to recognize the future optimistically as compared the present or the past.

In this study, an attempt has been made to inquire the background factors of this tendency from the view point of their time perspectives and causal attributions.

The findings are as follows.

(1) The tendency that juvenile delinquents have optimistic view of their future and present as compared with the past is confirmed in this study, too.

(2) The degree of using their past experiences to anticipate the future differs depends on judgement whether the result would be favourable or not for them in each situation concerned.

(3) Because of this tendency, it is assumed, they do not always anticipate the results of their future or present events based on their past experiences; that is, they make judgements to suit their own conveniences by considering the result, to be in favour or not.

(4) The differences in degree of using past experiences shows no correlation with the manner of causal attributions.
