Increased injection pressure, which has contributed to the improvement of diesel combustion, makes it important to prevent cavitation erosion in injector nozzles. This study aims to clarify the relationship between cavitation behavior and erosion damage in the nozzle sac to establish a new method for predicting cavitation erosion. Focusing on the vortex flow in the nozzle sac, which changes over time due to needle lift during the injection period, a model was developed to correlate vorticity with cavitation intensity on the sac wall. The validity of the model was experimentally verified using an enlarged visualization nozzle.
