Abstract

Learning through discussion (LTD) is a cooperative learning method. LTD is based on an active learning educational strategy that requires an interdependence between the learner and other class members through attentive listening and repetition (mirroring) skills. Learners prepare for the discussion before class by reflecting on the topic and how to express his or her thoughts and opinions. During the class discussion, each learner has equal opportunity to talk through the Think-Pair-Share, Round Robin and Jigsaw activities. Learners identify differences in the thoughts and opinions throughout the discussion, which increases learning. LTD is an educational strategy which promotes proactive, interactive and deep learning.
