A hospital practical training program, initiated in 2018, enabled Kitasato University Medical Centre students to acquire practical clinical skills based on the Practical Pharmacist Training Guidelines that the Council on Pharmaceutical Education developed. In this study, the program’s educational effectiveness was assessed from 2018 to 2019 based on changes in the performance of 62 students who completed both the pharmacy and hospital training and the students’ questionnaire responses. The performance ratings gradually increased in 11 of the rubric items. In the final week of training, more than 80% of the students were rated as a “3” or “4” in nine of the items. In addition, more than 90% of the students received ratings of a “3” or “4” for their ward training. According to the questionnaire responses, more than 95% of the students were satisfied with the training, and 100% were particularly satisfied with the ward training. In the future, specific measures will be considered to address the issues raised and develop a program that will improve the students’ clinical ability.
