It has recently been reported that oral brush cytological examination in private dental clinics is quite effective for early detection of oral cancers. While a number of brushes are available in the market (or are under development) for this examination, it has not yet been investigated as to which of these might be the most useful to collect a sufficient number of cells for adequate cytological examination.
The purpose of this study was to identify a brush that can be used easily by any dentist to collect sufficient amounts of cells for satisfactory cytodiagnosis, and thereby spread the examination in our country.
