We report a case of diabetic mastopathy in a 67-year-old woman, together with cytological features. A diabetic patient treated with insulin for 7 years noticed a poorly circumscribed 2.6cm mass in the left breast. Physical examination, mammography, echography, and CT indicated a malignant tumor. Fine-needle aspiration biopsy showed sheet-like clusters of benign ductal cells, lymphocytes, and epithelioid fibroblasts. Needle biopsy showed features of diabetic mastopathy. The integration of clinical history and features with cytologic findings thus leads to a more accurate diagnosis of diabetic mastopathy and avoids needless surgey.
