Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM or Kampo medicine; 漢方 in Japanese) has been practiced and developed over thousands of years, and is still used widely in Asia as complementary and alternative medicine. TCM-integrated western medicine (IM) is developing in internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, otolaryngology, and even in pediatric surgery and other subspecialties. If western medical doctors, including pediatric surgeons, could know the basic theory and principles of diagnosis and treatment with TCM, they could use TCM correctly and effectively.
