For JSL students, the national language class is particularly difficult because it is highly dependent on Japanese. In recent years, learning support mainly for JSL elementary and junior high school students has been expanding, using reading materials rewritten into easy Japanese. Rewritten materials enable JSL students to read and understand the content at the appropriate intellectual level for their grade. This study reports on the educational practice of using simplified reading materials in a Japanese class for JSL high school students. This study also discusses its achievements and areas requiring further improvement.
