Admissions into graduate schools in China have been rapidly increasing since the 2000s. The number of Chinese graduate students in Japan has increased because of this surge in China, and despite the worldwide infections with COVID-19, the number of Chinese people studying in Japanese graduate schools to obtain a diploma is still increasing. More than 20% of graduate students in Japan in the fields of humanities, social sciences, and arts are Chinese. A questionnaire survey of university students majoring in the Japanese language in China revealed that among the numerous applicants to graduate school, many apply for the purpose of better employment.
