This paper explored how fluency affects the "favorability" of speech by measuring the "speed fluency", "breakdown fluency", and "repair fluency" of two non-native speakers’ speech in two different situations (narrating a story and making a request) to identify their fluency. The results showed that frequent use of silent pauses and repairs in narrating a story gave an “unfavorable” impression. Meanwhile, using too few silent pauses when making a request also did not give a good impression. It also indicated that a “proper” amount of filled pauses affects the "favorability".
