Magnetic frequency triplers provide high reliability and a good output waveform and therefore have been used widely.
This paper reports experiments, analysis and reviews made on the parallel running of two frequency tripler units to increase the capcity of the device. Parallel running creates a problem of effective load, in which a frequency tripler having a self impedance with a smaller proportion of resistance component is the first to be overloaded.
The authors analyzed the parallel running characteristics using the harmonic balance method. The relationship between the circulating power and the circuit constant of the device has been clarified, and the conditions of parallel running that increase the effective load was determined.
