This paper analyzes the population distributions in the neighbourhood of the arterial street (National road route No.17) in Takasaki by applying a lumping method to the dotted map data of population. Firstly, two indices are proposed to evaluate the state of population distribution. Secondly, using these indices, this paper examines the variation of the population distributions over time and over the regions defined by the areas enclosed by parallel curves to the street and perpendicular lines to it at constant intervals. From this examination, several empirical findings are derived.
