This paper deals with the trend of industrial location and the variation of industrial building coverage, floor-area ratio and number of stories in Japan since 1973 for the improvement of industrial location environment. It is found that the number of stories has observably increased, particularly in various use districts and cities of above one million population and the quashi-industrial districts. Finally, the influence of various factors, such as population size of city, land price, industrial soft index, and industrial location basic units (ILBU) as floor area, water, energy consumed per value of shipments, equipment investment per site area, on the change of number of stories was examined by multiple regression analysis.
