The Third Chubu Region Basic Development Plan was revised by the Japanese Government in July 1988. Previously, the Chubu region which includes the Nagoya metropolitan area was handled as an neutral area in the context of nationwide regional development, that is not so rural nor so metropolitan in it's character. But in this new Basic Development Plan, some new strategies for the region was newly formulated and some new projects were proposed. This paper introduces the outline and the background of this plan.
