The purpose of this paper is to present the comparative analysis of three contemporary theories--architectural, environmental, and spatial determinism. The measure to improve architectural determinism is also discussed. Three theories have serious defects: however, they should not be discarded as an useless tool in policy-making and conceptual organization of the field of environment-behavior research since they can become one of prominent forces contributing to the advancement of field of urban planning and architecture.
