The photosensitive nature of the low frequency electric discharge with 50 cycle potentials in halogens enclosed in glass vessels is studied. The larger the quantum energy of the photon or the shorter the wave-length of the radiation used for irradiating the system, the lower is the potential at which the discharge could be initiated. The photovariation, Δi, of the discharge current, i, flowing through the system is a linear function of the frequency of the external radiation; it is also dependent on the applied field and is associated primarily with the electrode regions.
