The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the challenges of online-centered class format in Project-Based Learningand to evaluate the acquisition of leadership-related competencies. We implemented both online-centered and faceto-face project-based learning. The study consisted of interviews with the participant of these educational practicesand a questionnaire survey before and after the classes were taken. As a result, the interview survey revealed that theonline-centered class format had some issues, such as difficulty in grasping the progress of assignments whencommunication with other students was interrupted, compared to the face-to-face class format. In addition, it wasshown that the relationships among students established in other face-to-face classes contributed to group activities. The results of the questionnaire survey showed that students tended to acquire leadership skills regardless of the classformat, and that they tended to acquire the same level of leadership skills in the online-centered class format as in theface-to-face- format.
