The effect of heparin on platelet function was studied in the normal control and renal failure patient groups. The following results were obtained.
1) Heparin enhanced the ADP induced platelet aggregation in the PRP containing citrate from normal subjects.
2) No significant difference in the aggregation without heparine was found between undialyzed, dialyzed chronic renal failure patients and normal subjects.
3) The aggregation with heparin in the undialyzed chronic failure patients was significantly attenuated as compared to the normal subjects.
4) The dialyzed chronic renal failure patients showed little enhancement in the aggregation with heparin.
