A new pavement material with high permeability and water storability is required for the flood disappearance and the runoff control during a heavy rainfall in an urban area. The Porous Concrete (POC) which has continuous large pores inside is expected to absorb rainwater on the ground surface and to reduce and delay the flow into the downstream. This research aims to clarify the seepage properties of POC through laboratory experiments, and to evaluate the hydrological effects by hydraulic analyses on seepage flow from small area under a rainfall. From results of the experiments, it is found to be appropriate that the permeability of POC is expressed as the nonlinear Darcy formula: v = k’ i m. Based on the hydraulic analyses, it is suggested effective for the flood control to use smaller grading of aggregate.
