Abstract

Physical activity (PA) associated with daily trips contributes to health. For that reason, urban development that induces more daily trips has been promoted recently. However, the COVID-19 pandemic altered people’s transportation behavior and changed their amounts of related PA. A multiple regression model was applied to assess effects of urban characters and to evaluate individual attributes’ effects on workers’ PA change during the COVID-19 pandemic. Results show that urban area scales, relations among surrounding cities, work style, and car ownership significantly affect workers’ PA change. Preventing workers from sudden PA reduction during pandemics in urban areas is expected to be crucially important, as will be the necessity of providing continuous support for teleworkers by promoting ways of ensuring daily PA.
