This paper proposes a method for self-assessment of competencies (behavioral characteristics that produce excellent outcomes) before and after attending an educational program. The competency self-assessment proposed in this paper can be conducted easily and without cost. Furthermore, the results of the self-assessment can be used by educators not only to analyze educational effects and improve teaching methods but also to foster awareness of improving competencies among learners. The content of the competency self-assessment sheet has been carefully designed so that it can be used effectively to raise awareness of the need to improve competencies and to enable reflection on the results. As an example of the analysis of educational effects, we discuss the differences in the effects of competency development depending on the content of the graduation research and the students’ attitude toward the graduation research.
