Recentry, the model engineering has been introduced in the field of plant design, and its remarkable effects are generally recognized. However, there are many practical problems demanded to be solved. The fundamental problem is the transformation from a 3-D model to 2-D drawings. In order to get the drawings from the model, it is necessary to measure the model and to obtain the 3-D location data. Up to the present, almost all work of model measuring are carried out by hands. The authors have been investigating the model/drawing transformation and got a new optical method for it. The tentative experiment was carried out and the availability of the method was confirmed. In this paper, the principle of the new model/drawing transformation method and the results of experiment are reported.
