Through analyzing the relations between sediment concentration and water discharge for a hydrologic event, such asa flood, in large river systems, the lagging of sediment concentrations have been noted by comparing the peaks for boththe water discharge and sediment concentration. Different velocities of flood wave and stream flow are determined to bethe major control on the relation of stream discharge to sediment concentrations, that is, the flood wave movesdownstream faster than water flow in which the sediment are transported. This study aimed at simulating the lag ofsediment transport in open channel by modifying the routing method for sediment in rivers during hydrologic events.
