Local healthcare information sharing is critical for social disaster recovery and pandemic protection.
However, information sharing among local medical institutes is still underutilized in Japan and the United States. We studied the present situation and challenges in the electronic exchange of health information based on a literature review. Moreover, we conducted a multiple regression analysis about factors that affect information sharing diffusion among hospitals in the USA. General expenditure of states per capita, average hospital size, and percent of all hospitals that have adopted a certified health electronic record are significant factors. We explain and discuss the result.
