In order to elucidate the etiology of the loose shoulder, biochemical characteristics of collagen in joint capsules, muscles and skin from patients with loose shoulder and normal shoulder have been investigated. In cases of loose shoulder, the collagen fibers were more immature than those found in normal shoulder.
This present study was performed to investigate biochemical characteristics of collagen in joint capsules and skin from patients with loose shoulder (first operation and re-operation cases) and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome in congenital connective tissue disease. In joint capsules and skin of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, we found the immature collagen fibers similar to those found in cases of re-operation for loose shoulder.
The data suggest that the more immature the collagen fibers are, the more severe will be the case of loose shoulder.
