The efficacy of KTP/532 laser in the middle ear surgery was evaluated in 23 cases of middle ear diseases operated on at the authors' department. The laser was used in such occasions as skin incision in the external auditory meatus, vaporization of granulation tissue surrounding the stapes, interruption of the fixed ossicular chain and stapedotomy.
It was found that KTP/532 laser is highly beneficial in the treatment of the pathology around the stapes, such as the granulation tissue or stapes ankylosis, and the possibility was suggested to enhance the improvement in hearing results in tympanoplasty.
