597 patients have been treated by means of laser surgery at the laser clinic of the department of otolaryngology, Kobe University hospital from April 1979 to May 1988.
We prepared not only a laser equipment but also a bipolar coagulator, an infrared coagulator, a deflation system, an illumination, an aspirator and a source of electricity in the operation room. The total numbers of outpatient's operation is 794 out of the total numbers of operation 1147 (69%) malignant tumor (267 cases): 110/128 (86%), Benign tumor (132 cases): 186/198 (94%), other diseases (150 cases): 181/197 (92%).
The most important thing to let patients go back safety is to prevent bleeding after operation. We could stop bleeding effectively by using bipolar coagulator after becoming skillful in laser surgery.
