First order decay model is most widely used for estimating the Landfill gas (LFG) generations. The model is suitable to explain laboratory experiments about decomposition of substrate alone. In a landfill, however, many complicating factors may reduce the rate of gas generation to a lower value than would be expected based on the availability of substrate alone. Many researchers, due to this reason, have made their effort to correct factors of model through comparing LFG emissions by field monitoring and LFG generations estimated by the model. Through intensive and long period field monitoring at SUDOKWON Landfill, the ultimate methane yields suitable for field conditions in the landfill were corrected from 50% to 70% of experimentally acquired those under optimum condition. These results can be useful for estimating LFG generations from other landfills having similar waste composition to SUDOKWON Landfill. However, k estimated from this study is hard to generally apply to limited period of monitoring LFG in field. It is necessary to accumulate data by monitoring LFG in field continuously to develop factors suitable for variable condition in landfill.
