Recently, carbon fiber (CF) become more popular and used in variety of applications in industries. Since high grade of carbon is valuable and expensive commodity, there are a several way to recover and recycle the fiber from CFRP. One of the way is using thermal methode, either use carbonization or calcination process to degrade the epoxy from the carbon fiber surface. By that process, some residual from epoxi probably still stick on carbon fiber surface and generate aerosol in the work place. Chemical reagent such as Benzo-a-pyrene, Napthalen and Phenophthalein is used as represent the kind of chemical compound which is probably remain on the product of recycle carbon fiber. In this experiment, Human lung carcinoma A549 cells and yeast were used as assessment of the possible impact for human health and environment. Based on the experiment which only done by direct observation under microscop which was used direct exposure method of chemical reagent and the product of recycle carbon fiber into A549 cell line and yeast, Recycle carbon fiber did not kill A549 cell line. The exposure limit of benzo-a-pyrene for yeast and A549 Cell line is 4 ppm. So, probability of benzo-a-pyrene concentration in recycle carbon fiber, should be lower than the exposure limits.
