Comparison of the preferences for trash bin design items based on web-questionnaires

Waste separation and collection is the first step in waste management. The benefits of effective separation and collection on waste management are numerous, waste separation and collection has been shown to contribute to the environment: cleaner air, water, and land. The authors consider that trash bins with appropriate design might be able to encourage waste segregation of recyclable and non-recyclable wastes by waste disposers. In this study, the authors focus on the color of trash bin body, the shape of disposal slot and the arrangement of the trash bin, which are the basic item of trash bin design. In the other hand, the authors collected 25 different trash bins in Japan, Psychological preferences of body color, disposal slot shape and the arrangement of the trash bin would be discussed and compared with the psychological preferences of the existing trash bins in Japan. There is still large space for the functional and efficient trash bin design in Japan.
