This paper presents research in progress on minimization of sound radiation from an Oil Pan using shape optimization method. The famous basis vector method was used for the optimization of the shape of the oil pan and these shape basis vectors are generated using the technique called auxiliary boundary shape method in MSC/NASTRAN. The sound power analysis is being investigated on the optimized shape using SYSNOISE/POWER soft wares.
