A smart vortex generator(SVG) is proposed, which can be stowed during cruise to reduce drag. Posture of SVG can be transformed automatically by making SVG of a two-way-shape-memory(TWSM) alloy and using temperature difference between a cruise altitude and a low altitude. To investigate feasibility of SVG, a new TWSM model is proposed and a numerical simulation of motion of SVG is performed by using this proposed TWSM model and a finite element method. A result shows possibility of reciprocal motion of SVG between a vortex generating posture and a drag reducing posture by the temperature difference only.
