This paper describes a assisting method of consideration of engineering designers, and visually assisting a consensus formation of the concerned parties. In a conceptual design stage to define the basic frame construction, structure evaluation methods to estimate by looking down of the whole structure, and the partitioning method to find out the cluster of module and process at the same time, are proposed. A three-dimensional finite element method using a beam element is used as the conceptual design method. Framed layout is determined by the topology optimization using beam elements. Cross-sectional shapes are determined by the fully stressed design approach to discrete values. By creating a design structure matrix likened the each beam element with a component, the clustering analysis are performed. Using this clustering analysis, clusters and their relationship of the module and the process can be displayed in a hierarchical tree diagram. By validation analysis using a simple box structure, the effectiveness of this proposed method has been confirmed.
