In hot hammer die forging process, several surface treatments, such as, nitriding and sulfornitriding are commonly used for avoiding seizure or lengthening life time. The objective of this study is to evaluate influences on friction performance of nitriding and sulfornitriding of steel surface at several temperatures. Friction tests were conducted by a pin-on-disc friction test equipment at room and high temperatures. At room temperature, coefficient of friction of as-sulfonitrided samples is lower and more stable than that of the others. The values of coefficient of friction at 600°C are smaller than that at room temperature on each sample. However, difference in coefficient of friction among samples at high temperature is not significant.
