The workmanship which the Ono Benkichi calls a real name the Nakamuraya Benkichi, and lives in 1801 (Kyowa origin) year Kyoto - it was born as a teacher's child. It comes out to Nagasaki and it is told to the Dutch that Western medicine, physics and chemistry, astronomy, etc. were studied. Then, it crosses to Korea from Tsushima, and goes to Kii. and it is said that it reached to an extreme of horsemanship, gunnery, mathematics developed in Japan, and Astronomy. Benkichi which returned to Kyoto soon marries Uta of Nakamuraya hachiemon of the Ono-mura native. Then, it emigrates to a wife's parents' home Ono. It is a thing for 1830 (Bunseil3) years. Henceforth, this quiet port town became 1970 (Meiji 3) years with his last house. Benkichi left various "mechanisms" and much "technical work." Machine work represented by the "customary prelude", such as a windup doll and various kinds of roots and a lighter, is well known by the workmanship of Benkichi, and the technology is crossed to various genres, such as woodwork, Metal craft, ivory work, pictures, lacquer work, pottery and also fireworks, and glass. In recent years, there is a tendency to reappraise Benkichi as an engineer who learned the scientific knowledge of the high level. The data which support the evaluation are the works in their own hand "Ittousikyuroku." The interesting description about various science fields is described in the writing. Many of pupils support the deployment to taking over modernization for his mechanical arts. That is, the Ono Benkichi survived the time when the technology of Meiji, i.e., Edo, changed from " Mechanism " to "science" from the end of Edo Period.
