Euler's formula is the fundamental of theory of flat belt transmission, which gives the tension distribution of a single belt winding on a pulley. In a sandwich-belt conveyor system, however, there is at least one pulley on which two belts wind, and the conventional Euler's formula can not be applied in so called twofold winding. In this paper, a theoretical analysis on twofold winding of belts is carried out and the formulas for calculating belt tension are derived. The theoretical analysis is verified by using FEM through a calculation example.
