In this paper, we proposed a novel miniaturized cell stretching tool using an Ionic Polymer-Metal Composite (IPMC) actuator. An IPMC is a small, light weight and flexible material. It drives flexibly like a living thing with low voltage. In this study, a PDMS cell culture chamber with a PDMS membrane of 20 μm thick had been fabricated on IPMC. And cultured cells were stretched by IPMC. The displacement of the PDMS membrane was measured by a laser displacement sensor. And then, cells have been cultured on the PDMS membrane and stretched by IPMC motion in an incubator. The results show that the PDMS membrane and cells were stretched by IPMC. The potentiality of cell stretching tool using IPMC was demonstrated.
