A life-size humanoid versa-writer has been developed. This report explains the mechanism swinging an LED-array and the flash control of LEDs. A four-bar linkage mechanism is adopted to make stable and rapid swinging motion in order to making an afterimage generated with a LED flash. The LED flasher consists of a Cortex-M3 based microcontroller, a LED driver and a MEMS accelerometer. The versa-write is one of the typical application combining mechanics and electronics. A life-size humanoid versa-writer is chosen as a robotics-related educational material in department of Innovative System Engineering of Nippon Institute of Technology. A life-size humanoid versa-writer also has a role as a billboard of the department. The experimental results of swinging and LED-flashing are also described.
