ER (electro-rheological) gel is one of functional materials, which adhesive force increases when an electric field is impressed. We aim at development of force display devices which generate rotational and translational resistive forces using ER gel on one side pattern electrode. We have been measured shear stress characteristics of ER gel on one side pattern electrode in rotational and translational movement. However, the measured values were lower than expectation. We thought flatness of electrode was influenced as this reason, because characteristic of ER gel might decrease when flatness of electrode was poorly. In this way, we tried to improve characteristics of ER gel by improvement of flatness of one side pattern electrode.
