With respect to the reduction of the interior noise of railway vehicles, most of the countermeasures taken have been mainly passive procedures based on the mass law. As to application of the 'active noise control' to railway vehicles, only a few experiential tests have been carried out so far. This paper proposes a system to reduce the interior noise in view of the characteristics of the railway vehicles. Moreover, through evaluating in which the proposed noise reduction system as applied to a deck of the Shinkansen, the effectiveness of the system will be apparent.
