The present study deals with the first isolation of Streptomyces albus from human and animal in Xinjiang, China. Skin lesion appeared for cow raised at the cattle farms in suburbs Shihezi city, Xinjiang, China. More than 10 heads of cow have skin lesion with circumscribed scales and alopecia, after that 16 feeder have skin lesion with slightly itching, 2 by 2 cm to 5 by 5 cm erythematous macules or papules on their forearms or trunk, some lesion spread outward and develop into annular lesion with sharp scaling borders and healing centers. A total number of 11 strains (9 from feeder and 2 from cow) were isolated. The colonies of all isolates produced white, dry and powder colonies on PDA medium after cultivated at 27°C for a week. All strains were identified as S. albus based on sequences analysis for PCR-amplified products from 16S rDNA. Streptomyces strains are infrequently encountered in clinical practice but have been considered to be important potential causes of serious human and animal infections. As the characteristics of skin lesions are very similar to fungal infections, we need a careful identification of the causative agents.
