Abstract
One of the authors has reported that a certain amount of cadmium accumulated in cuttlefish liver has no injurious effect on an animal whereas the same amount of cadmium chloride is injurious. To make clear this reason a study was carried out on the measurement of the complex formation between cadmium and glutamic acid by means of the paper electrophoresis, using the radioisotope of 109Cd as a tracer. The results obtained were compared with the stability constants of cadmium glutamate complexes reported by other authors, and further discussions were made. For example, in 0.1 M of glutamic acid (H2L) solution at pH 6.0, the composition ratios of cadmium species were as follows : Cd2+, 52.42%; CdL, 46.75%; and CdL22-, 0.83%.
