Finite element analyses of the slip-critical joint under compression load in brace were performed to obtain the maximum compressive strength of the joint when out-of-plane deformation of the splice plates occurs, which corresponded well with values obtained in previous experiments. The effect of the out-of-plane deformation restraint of the splice plate by the base metal was clarified in the elastic buckling range. The compressive strength of the joints with various sizes of the splice plates and with staggered arrangement of high-strength bolts were also obtained, and it was shown that the strength could be estimated by the bending buckling strength formula using the distance between the washer ends.
