The purpose of this study is to evaluate the low-cycle fatigue strength of corner welded joints in steel bridge piers. Low-cycle fatigue tests and elastic-plastic finite element analysis (FEA) were conducted. A fatigue strength curve was derived by correlating the test data with the local strain amplitude at the weld root obtained from FEA. The slope of the obtained curve differs from that of the fatigue design curve in the high-cycle region; this is attributed to the shift of the fracture initiation point from the inner weld root to the weld toe as the strain amplitude decreases.
