The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of high school selection factors (information considered important when selecting a high school) on the sense of school adjustment after enrollment, by gender. 527 first-third-year students (211 boys and 316 girls) in a private high school were analyzed. A structural equation modeling was conducted assuming a model in which high school choice factors influence school adjustment. Multi group analysis were also conducted to examine gender-specific models.
The results showed that the significant paths differed by gender and that there were differences in the coefficient of determination. Gender differences in the mechanism of influence of high school choice factors on school adjustment were indicated. The results indicated that “career/academic” had a large impact on the sense of school adjustment among boys.
